Last night a BYU fan on Twitter going by the handle of @artdirectorbyu posted a link to a spreadsheet he made containing college football attendance for most every FBS school for the years 2006-2011. He also had average attendance for each year listed for the various conferences, as well as a five year attendance average.
We downloaded the spreadsheet and added a column for stadium capacity so we could analyze how full the various stadiums are. We used Tableau to create a dashboard where you can analyze the various schools and conferences, compare them, etc.
We initiated the visualization with a comparison of Utah and BYU because, well, we’re in Utah and the comparison is inevitable.
You can explore the visualization here:
Update: Due to several requests we moved the conferences to the top of the filter list.
Update 2: We made significant changes to the visualization to accommodate for stadium renovations. We also moved the conference data to a separate dashboard tab and changed the data points to lines rather than circles. Let us know what you think.
